Becca’s Puzzle Story:

Becca T. (she/her) lives in California, and serves as a USAJPA Volunteer by managing the majority of the Traveling Puzzle program logistics, including scheduling, for creation, and content creation toward the Travel Puzzle newsletter!

She has casually puzzled since early childhood, and discovered competitive puzzling in 2022. When assembling a puzzle, Becca loves getting to know an image really well by reconstructing it in tiny sections.

Becca enjoys competing in the monthly SpeedPuzzling.com contests via Zoom, monthly puzzle races hosted by Artifact Wooden Puzzles, and looks forward to the World competition in Spain (where she is aiming for a “slightly-above-mediocre” performance)!

Q&A Time:

Are you active in the puzzle community?

“I've organized some local swaps and gotten plugged in with some great local puzzle brands in the Bay Area. I'm loving volunteering with the USAJPA Traveling Puzzle program and helping with arrangements for the upcoming CA state championship. I also joined Instagram for the first time last year to make a puzzle account (had been resisting for so long, but am loving being in the ‘puzzlegramfam’ now and learning about all sorts of global brands!).”

What do you enjoy most about the puzzle community?

“The puzzle community is filled with warmth and generosity. It's also quite psychologically affirming to learn that I'm not the only ‘crazy puzzle lady’ with an absurdly large jigsaw collection out there.”

What is your best advice for someone who wants to improve their speed puzzling abilities?

“Do a warm-up puzzle, even if just a mini one! When I practice, my second puzzle is always faster than the first.”

What is the puzzle community like in your area?

“It's lovely, and growing quickly! I've connected with so many local puzzlers through USAJPA, SpeedPuzzling, Hoefnagel, local Artifact competitions, and swap groups. I had the serendipity of meeting USAJPA member Susanne R. last year, who welcomed me into the community and has become a dear friend.”

Do you have a cherished puzzle-related memory?

“My parents gave me a 5,000-piece puzzle of wild cats (lions, etc) to keep me distracted from scratching myself when I had chicken pox as a kid. I worked on that darn thing nonstop for days. SO MANY FUR PIECES. But it worked!”
